Good Morning! Happy Thursday! It’s time again for Thursday 13. Just a list of 13 things. It’s my new go-to post for all Thursdays and again, a big thank you to Liz over at Laws of Gravity.
First, Happy August and Happy National Coffee Month!

I don’t know who wrote this meme but they obviously don’t have kids or pets because trust me, there are a lot of other odors that come to mind before burning wood.

Okay, I’m done with the odor rant, on to my Thursday 13 list.
1 – Since it is National Coffee Month I’ll share my favorite coffee with you (outside of my home brew.)
I love iced or hot mochas with raspberry flavoring and NO whip but I never get it from this place…
Their coffee isn’t worth their prices. You can get better coffee and better service at other places for half the price. I go to Dutch Brothers. They have great coffee, great people and it’s always upbeat.
What’s your favorite coffee (outside of your home brew) and where do you go to get it?
2 – Today is also…

Where would we be without our besties??
3 – And another National Day…
I’ve never had raspberry cream pie. I like raspberries but that looks like custard and I don’t like custard anything.

4 – And my last National Day…

Let’s give it up for The Who! I would’ve loved to have seen them in concert.
5 – National Coffee Month really is magickal.

6 – I actually do this every month.

7 –HappyLughnasadh! This really is a special day. I’ll be making bread today and lighting candles and just being thankful.

8 – Did you know?

9 – While I was in the kitchen washing up some dishes my Alexa was playing the 70s disco station but when I said, “Alexa, stop” she didn’t stop. I repeated it 3 more times, “Alexa, stop!” But she just kept playing and playing and playing, and when I realized I was a grown-ass woman standing in my kitchen yelling at an inanimate object I just said, fuck this and pulled the plug on my little pal Alexa. And then I laughed so hard at myself for yelling at, literally, no one.
Ironically, the song that wouldn’t stop playing was “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now” by McFadden & Whitehead. I have so many sweet memories of rollerskating to this song with my high school boyfriend. It’s crazy how fast time goes by.
What’s a song that brings up sweet memories for you?
10 – I joined a Use Up Your Yarn Stash n’ Scraps Challenge and the only “rule” is that you can’t buy any more yarn until you’ve used up your stash n’ scraps. This was part of my process…

11 – Random fact. Did you know if you put your phone on airplane mode you can play the games on your phone ad free? But… While your phone is in airplane mode any calls you get will go straight to voicemail.
12 – Do you have any August birthdays coming up? We have ZERO birthdays in August in my family. I’m pretty sure October has the most birthdays.

13 – This is my favorite and it really is the coolest.
This morning I pulled 2 tarot cards. One for this day and one for this month and wow, talk about a double whammy of all good things.

The Ten of Cups and the Ten of Pentacles. –
(The condensed version.)
Both cards represent family, happiness, abundance, and financial security. It’s one of the best combo card pulls. This is a time when we see the fruits of our labor. Emotional and financial security is ready and waiting for us to celebrate with our families. Life is good and will continue to be good.
The thing that ties this all together with a nice little bow is that I pulled these cards on Lughnasadh! The beginning of harvest season. How cool is that? In this month of August, we all have the opportunity to receive an abundance of happiness and stability, both emotional and financial.
Truly, my cup runneth over.
I hope that all of you are reaping a harvest of all things good and true. This is most definitely the month to open your arms wide and accept the goodness that is yours!
Do any of you work with tarot cards or other oracle cards?
Or have you ever had your cards read?
Today’s deck is The Witches Tarot by Ellen Cannon Reed. I’ve had this deck forrreevvver. It’s my go-to deck and my total vibe. Definitely my favorite.
MIMI’S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY –

Always look for the magic…
xo mimi xo

August 1st is also go climb a mountain.

I didn’t know that but I’m sure I’ve done it! Lol. – Dora, you show up Anonymous in the comments but I do get your link so that’s good. I know it’s you. I just thought you showed up differently before. Who knows. I’m probably just going loopy. Lol.

Someone else had the same Alexa problem not so long ago. She told me it would not turn off for a while. She had to ask it multiple times. I heard the story because the Alexa turned on in the middle of the night, and I was the only one to hear it. I had to unplug it as it wouldn’t respond to my command.
So many August birthdays. My uncle turns 85 on the 5th. My grandmother was born in the three days… I had so many friends who were born on the 25th, 26th, or 27th that I have lost track of whose birthday is when. (Grandmother passed in the ’90s.)
Back when everything was shut down, I learned of a Kickstarter for a knitter’s set of oracle cards (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/alextinsley/the-knitters-oracle). The months of anticipation were worth the wait. This is a great set of cards.

That was the first time Alexa had not listened to me but she’s old. Might be time to get a new one. – I have never even heard of Kickstarter but I went over and they don’t have the cards listed anymore. Unless I’m blind which may very well be the case.

Sadly, I think once she sold out of the cards she didn’t order any more. I’ll have to do some searching to make sure.

Awe, that’s a bummer. Hopefully they’ll surface again because they sound like I need them. Lol.

Sad to say, I’m supposed to have no caffeine after my first cup at home in the morning, and there are no places with decent decaf, really. Home brew is my brew.
Yes, August was named after Augustus Caesar, just as July was named after his uncle Julius. In fact, both months used to have only 30 days, but when Julius redid the calendar he wanted 31 in his month, so he took one from February. Augustus wanted his month to match his uncle’s so he did the same. Poor February has never been the same since.
I hope your Alexa unit is behaving now. Funny how those things can glitch. A friend of mine played an April Fool’s joke on her kids. Each of them has their own little Alexa dot unit, and each calls it by a different name and they use it as their wake-up alarm. She changed the names on them the night before without the kids knowing it, and none of them could shut off their alarms. Hilarity ensued.
Happy August, I hope you stay cool!

Omgosh. Changing the names on Alexa would be hilarious!! What a great prank. – I always think true coffee lovers are the ones who can drink decaf because why else would you drink coffee except for the kickstart in the morning, afternoon, evening… Lol. – I love finding out the whys of things. My brother and I constantly have those conversations. Life is interesting to be sure.

#6, with blowing cinnamon in through your front door, does it HAVE to be on the first of the month? Because here it is already the 3rd. I can’t be sprinkling any salt either in case the cat licks it and gets sick. Cinnamon is one of my favourite spices.
August is my birthday month and when I was working in the shoe factory there were about 15 people working along “my” production line and 12 of us had August birthdays.
I don’t do any work with tarot or oracle cards, though I do have a set of “Witches Wisdom” Oracle Cards somewhere. I think I looked at them once, but the guide book to explain the symbols is online and I’d have to print out umpteen pages to keep it handy. So that’s not happening.

I think the first week of the month is a good grace period. I’ve missed the 1st before and all is well. :) – I’d be interested to see that oracle deck. I’ll google it. – Hey! Happy Birthday!! Early or late or whenever! It’s another trip around the sun and those are most welcome! Enjoy!

Happy August, Karin! I know this isn’t your kind of weather, but it will be over soon enough. I like plain old ‘American style’ coffee and never get it from Starfucks, where it’s called ‘Americano’. McDonald’s has excellent coffee, believe it or not, but I usually go with the home brew. Cappuccino is good too, and we have a machine to make that as well.
Love The Who! I have seen them in concert twice, but they were already older then (2013 and 2016). Still great, but Roger Daltrey in his prime, with the long curly hair would have been amazing! Ringo Starr’s son, Zak, was the drummer, and he’s a chip off the old block. Keith Moon would have been something else, though. He was wild!
Interesting to learn about Lughnasadh. And great timing with the Tarot cards. Are they usually accurate? Hope so! That’s a fun yarn project. Very colourful. :)
So many songs bring back memories, it would be hard to pick just one, but this came to mind the other day. It was a huge hit and getting lots of airplay when hubby and I were first going out togetherin 1971. we’ll be celebrating our 51st anniversary on Sunday (Aug. 4) :D

Oh. I totally forgot about McDonald’s coffee. That is really good. Starfucks is just so over priced and the coffee isn’t even that good. It’s definitely not good enough to justify those prices. – I knew you would have seen The Who! No matter how old or young. I knew you’d have seen them! I bet they were good. I’d love to see more about the kids of the legends and if they inherited the musical talent. Roget Daltrey and those curls. O.m.g. He’s gorgeous… I wonder if he has kids and do any of them look like him. Lol. – Hey, first, Happy Anniversary!!! What the hell?? 51 years??? Sometimes 51 seconds in the same room with someone was all I could stand. Lol. Well, I am just so in awe of you two. What an amazing celebration. You need to write a book on how you did it! What an inspiration for kids just starting their married life. You, Debbie, quite literally, rock!! xoxo

Here’s a surprise! Roger Daltrey has eight children, three of whom he didn’t know about until later in life! 😲 https://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/music/1374149/Roger-Daltrey-children-how-many-children-Roger-Daltrey-secret-children-evg
Yup, 51 years and counting! We can’t believe it, ourselves. 😆 Not a book, but I did write an article:

Thanks very much, Karen. You rock too! 😎
P.S. You should hear what my Italian hubby thinks of Starfucks’ espresso! X-rated… 😆 Their Cappuccino sucks too.

Wow, Roger! But ya’ know what Debbie, he was married and did presumably choose to have 5 children. The other 3? This will sound horrible but it was the 60s and he and his wife have made pulled it all together, mainly his wife I think. That whole situation could’ve ended with a bunch of angry and broken people but it didn’t. It sounds like it turned out fine. I’m sure they had many a bump in the road but 50 years later here they are. Kind of a messy love story. Yours is sooo much better. A true love story. xoxo

Yes, Roger and his wife dealt with the situation admirably. All love stories are messy in one way or another, I’d say! Our relationship had several rocky spells as well, (put two ‘Alpha’ types together and there’s a LOT of head-butting!) but we were determined to make it work, regardless. :)

A wonderful Thursday 13 post. I remember doing this meme many years ago. I don’t do Starbucks either and for the same reason.
We’re starting another heatwave here. Tomorrow and Wednesday is going to be HOT.
I linked this post to Awww Mondays. Just because I wanted to link you.
Have a fabulous day and week. Love you, Karen. Big hug. ♥

I have 3 grandkids with August birthdays, all from my oldest daughter. She did that on purpose! How crazy is that? I’ve never understood WHY?
I love your HS song memory. I have loads of those and want to do an entire post on them some day.
The aroma of coffee is my fave. It reminds me of my mom’s percolator that she’d use for company, which I loved when people came over (it was rare).
I’m back from my blog break, so see you around!
