IT’S FRIDAY AND I HAVE A QUESTION

Good afternoon! It’s a beautiful sunny day here but it’s only in the 40s so I’m inside working on my to-do list. Unless it warms up my to-do list will be my weekend! I know that sounds boring but this shit isn’t gonna’ get done on its own!

Okay. So I have a question. Do any of you have one of those bottom kitchen cabinets? I think they’re called blind cabinets. They’re so deep and long that there’s no way you can reach all the stuff that ends up in the back end. I hope somebody knows what I’m talking about. It looks something like this…
Mine is this way but with a shelf in the middle.

My question is…
What do you put in this cabinet??
Mine has pots and pans, cake pans, lids, cookie sheets, muffin tins and I’m guessing anything else that never finds a place in the kitchen. I honestly don’t know because there’s stuff way in the back that I can’t reach. I’m pretty sure it’s all kitchen stuff though.

I’m thinking about a.) putting a flippin’ light in there somewhere! And b.) putting some boxes of non-kitchen stuff way in the back. Just using it for some extra storage space, ya’ ‘know? What do you guys think?
My sister’s blind cabinet had a lazy Susan in it and the cereal kept getting stuck or something would fall off the lazy Susan and then it wouldn’t turn. It was a pain so I know I don’t want one of those.
Over on Reddit, the most popular answer was to turn it into a cozy place for your cats but I don’t have any cats.
So. I’m open to suggestions.

That’s just one of my to-do list things. Today is cooking the pumpkins in the Instant Pot for some pumpkin bread, pumpkin butter, and pumpkin soup! And, I might even get the duster out to get to these ceiling fans. Who knows. Suddenly, I’ve just become obsessed with a to-do list. The holiday cleaning bug has hit!

Do you ever get obsessed with getting things done? To be honest, this obsession doesn’t hit me very often so I’m just gonna’ go with it and get as much done as I can before laziness takes over the obsession fades. I’m sure my future to-do lists will have winter markets and lots of books on them. Oh, and baking! Lots of baking.

What’s on your to-do list?

  1. We had a cabinet like that at our old house that SHOULD have housed a lazy Susan, but never did. I was a young dumb dumb and put my canned goods in there and always ended up with expired food 😵‍💫 Maybe put large appliances in there that you don’t use often?

    1. That’s a good idea. I can’t believe the flaw in the design of those cabinets and they’re still installing them today. I thought it was because my kitchen is old school but nope, the ridiculous of that blind corner cabinet is alive and well.

  2. I have one of those cupboards under the kitchen sink and keep my cleaning supplies there. It is a pain, because as you said, some things are way in the back and hard to reach. Haven’t found a solution, so far, but what a great idea to put a light in there! The never-ending “to-do” list always involves housework, which tends to get shoved way down the priorities list. 😆 Those occasional cleaning obsessions are the only way anything gets done around here. Have “fun”! 😝 Love those winter markets. 🎄

    1. Oh. I’m so happy I’m not alone. Aren’t those cabinets just a waste of space?? – My to-do list gets longer every day because I’m constantly adding the stuff I didn’t get done the previous day! And you’re right. Most of it is housework! I seriously need to hit the lottery and get a maid! Lol.

  3. I don’t currently have one of those cabinets, but I know what you’re talking about. When my father and his wife redid their kitchen a while back, they had a corner cabinet installed there with that lazy susan. The reason it doesn’t lose stuff is because it’s a corner cabinet and designed to fit the space.

The light is a good idea, I think. (I doubt you want to get in someone to install a corner cabinet.) I would say use the space to store stuff you just want to store, not necessarily use. Things like a turkey roaster you use once a year and then it just takes up space. Because getting in and out of it is a pain.

  4. My daughter has one also with a shelf and puts things in there that only get used once a year or never. I have one but it is hinged at the corner with a long “piano hinge” so it opens wide (all the way) but it is quite deep and I put things at the back that I rarely need like empty glass jars that might come in handy one day (or never) and extra measuring jugs, oversized cans of instant coffee etc, the front areas of the shelves are my pantry, since no other cupboard is big enough. I’ve shown it on my blog a time or two but not lately and small things on the shelves are in baskets so I can drag out one basket and see many things at once, one basket has bottles of sauces and cans of soups for instance while another has packets of things like yeast or instant rice.

I suggest with yours you just use where you can reach and leave the rest empty.

  5. It’s mostly wasted space back in those cabinets, although if yours backs up to a bar and not a solid wall like mine, you can have a door installed on the other side. If we ever get to remodel, we will do that.

Getting in the mood to get stuff done doesn’t hit me often, either, and if you find that elf, let me know!

  7. My last two homes had them. I kept things like crock pot and instant pot in mine. At my home I lived the longest, I put a board in mine, holding up with brackets to block off the far back side. Wasted space I could have used but I was not climbing back there to locate things so I figured blocking it off was the best. My new and forever home has a cabinet door on it that opens wide and its set up to be useable. I keep yet again, crock pots, bottle water and all those plastic bowls and lids I dislike so much in there.
