SATURDAY 9 – NOTHING’S GONNA STOP US NOW

Today I’m joining the Saturday 9 hosted by Sam.
What is the Saturday 9? – Super short explanation. –
9 questions every Saturday. There may be a theme, there may not be. There are no rules because Sam hates rules.
It’s her blog. She does whatever the hell she wants. Sam’s a little sassy.

Saturday 9: Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now (1987)

Unfamiliar with this week’s tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Gracie Slick challenges, “Let them say we’re crazy!” Tell us about something you’re glad you did, even though your friends or family may have advised you against it.

2) Slick is the lead singer of Jefferson Starship. This band got its start in 1965 as Jefferson Airplane but updated their name in 1974. Part of their reasoning was that by the 1970s, airplane travel was commonplace. In 2023, an estimated 820 million Americans flew domestically. When was your most recent flight? When is your next one?

**** At the end of the month, I’m heading back east to watch my youngest grandson graduate highschool and I couldn’t be more proud. This is a pic of him and my daughter on his last day of high school.

3) Songwriter Albert Hammond said the song was inspired by his divorce. After years of legal wrangling, he was finally free to marry his long-time, long-suffering girlfriend. They’re still married today. What is something you waited a long time for? Was it worth the wait?

**** Absolutely worth the wait…

4) Albert Hammond is perhaps best known as the one-hit wonder who sang, “It Never Rains in Southern California.” Is rain expected where you are today?
**** Current situation.

5) He co-wrote the song with Diane Warren. In January, she lost her home to the Los Angeles fires. When a friend is confronted by heartache or tragedy, what can you say or do for them? What shouldn’t you say or do?

6) “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” was the love theme to the romantic fantasy Mannequin. In that movie, a department store mannequin comes to life and falls for a struggling artist. While it was a moderate success at the box office, the gritty Vietnam drama Platoon was a much bigger hit. When you sit down to watch a movie, what genre would you prefer (fantasy, romance, comedy, drama, etc.)?

**** I like thrillers and action movies, mostly. These are a few of my faves and of course, I love all of the sequels to Bourne and Equalizer.

7) In 1987, when this song was popular, Aretha Franklin became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Aretha was proud of her Detroit roots. Have you been to Michigan? If yes, where did you go?

**** Home-grown home girl.
My favorite place is northern Michigan anywhere on Lake Michigan. It’s my most favorite of the Great Lakes. I like the U.P. (upper peninsula) a lot too!

This is how we give directions. Seriously. It’s super convenient to have the map on your hand!

8) In 1987, the Chevy Corvette made news by adding a low tire pressure light to its dashboard. When you’re driving and a yellow warning light comes on, do you handle the issue promptly? Or is it something you’ll get to when you get around to it?

**** If it has something to do with the tires. Yes. I get it checked out immediately. The check engine light, not so much. Unless… It’s on the newer vehicle. If it’s the newer vehicle, that’s a trip to the dealership. If it’s just the winter ride, a beater with a heater, the hoopty??? That check engine light can stay on forever and has! Seriously. It was forever on and nothing was ever wrong.

9)
Random question: A magic mirror reflects your appearance five years from today. Would you look at it?

**** Of course I would…

And that’s a wrap! Happy Saturday everybody!

It’s been a super busy week for me. Mother’s Day was wonderful. I hope it was a good day for all of you, too. The rest of the week was lots of running around, mainly to get my Real I.D. so I can fly out, but that’s a whole other post.

It has been an amazing gray, chilly, rain filled day and I am in my element. It’s great reading weather and napping weather. Lots of cups of tea weather… It almost feels like Halloween weather, if only there were colorful leaves all over the ground and pumpkins on the porches.

What’s everybody got going on this weekend?? Tonight I will be continuing my binge watching of Bridgerton on Netflix. Are any of you guys watching this show? Omg. I love it! I didn’t think I would at first because I’m a huge Downton Abbey fan and I thought Bridgerton might be a copycat of that. It is most definitely NOT a copycat. So, so good and now I need to read all the books! I think there’s 9 of them.

Okay. Too long of a post and I am off to dinner, barbeque chicken sliders and homemade mac n’ cheese. Comfort foods on this fall like day/evening.

  1. I remember the song well. 1987 was the year I graduated from high school so I was really into music back then. Nice phot of your daughter and grandson.

  2. My check engine light is on, it’s an informational code about pressure in the gas tank, but there is nothing wrong with the gas tank. I stop at the mechanics and get it shut off every few weeks and it comes back on again after I get gas.

Enjoy your trip and tell your grandson congratulations.

    1. I don’t know anybody’s who check engine light hasn’t come on and stayed on forever. I think it’s a flaw in the design. – And yes. I am so going to enjoy my trip! And I will tell him! I’m leaving at the end of the month and I’m super excited!

    1. I am heading straight towards that pinky to Traverse and then just a little ways up to Charlevoix. I just love northern Michigan. My grandson that is graduating this year lives down state so I’m fortunate to be able to visit both places and very excited!

  3. I got my Real ID ages ago. When they first said it was going to be due a year from then. Before all of the extensions. So glad I did. I was tempted to push it, but decided not to. This was my first Mother’s Day after my mom’s death, so it was a bit weird to totally ignore it. I’m sure I’ll get used to that in the future.

After Bridgerton, check out Queen Charlotte. Looking forward to season 4.

    1. I wish I had gotten mine a long time ago too! Flying makes me nervous enough and now to think that I may have to deal directly with the TSA makes it even worse and the added FAA issues… Ugh. My stomach is in knots.

We like the same books/movies. Excellent.

Have a fabulous day and week, Karen. Love you. ♥

    1. Thank you, thank you! I can’t believe I’ll have 2 grandchildren in college. I see nothing but success for them both. – Omg. Those thriller/action movies and books are my favorite. – Thank you, Sandee. I’ll try… Love you bunches.

  5. I hope you have a good trip back to Michigan! Congrats to your grandson. :) We’ve been to Frankenmuth three times and also enjoyed road trips to Bay City and Ann Arbor. My car is old, so if the check engine light comes on, I will take it to the mechanic. That only happened once before – something to do with it overheating – can’t remember the details but it was a costly repair.

    1. Thank you! Frankenmuth was my favorite place growing up and created my obsession for pink Christmas trees and giant bubble gum pink ornaments. Lol. But then I found out there is a town called Christmas in Michigan and I thought I want to live there! Lol. Now, northern Michigan is my favorite place to be when I go there. Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay are my calming places. But, for this trip it’s all about excitement and that will be happening down state and I can’t wait!

  6. “Don’t marry him” – Bahahaha! Well, at least you got some great kids out of it! And grands!

The last time I flew was in February 2024 to Boca Raton and back. I used to love to fly and now I just dread it. We are hoping to go out West again this fall, so that will be my next flight.

We’ve been listening to a lot of Yacht Rock in the car, so I heard It Never Rains in Southern California yesterday! We did a mini getaway for my birthday over the weekend. I’ll post about it late in the week.

I have been to Michigan many times! Have gone to Detroit three times for the Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village. We had our second anniversary dinner at the Renaissance Center?? I think it was called. It was a tall building, and it was fancy somewhere in downtown Detroit. I’ve also been to Frankenmuth a few times, spent a week in Muskegon at some huge family church camp that was right on the beach when I was in high school. We took our kids to Sleeping Bear Dunes and stayed at Crystal Mountain Resort. So nice! This summer, we’re doing a big family vacation on Lake Michigan. Staying between Saugatuck and Holland. We are super excited!

I hope you have a wonderful trip back to Michigan and fun with family!!!

    1. Hey! Happy Birthday!! When was it so I can put it on my calendar and not forget next year! Geesh. I can’t wait to read the post. You always go some place cool.

You know I tell people the same thing you said, I got great kids and wonderful grand kids and I’d do it all over a million times just to have them.

I had the worst date of my life in Renaissance Center restaurant. Omg. He just wasn’t for me. Every pot has a lid and I hope he found his. The non=stop buckets of shrimp were nice, the hot server was even nicer. Lol. Maybe if there hadn’t been so many hot guys working there, from the bottom of the building to the top, the date might have went better… Nah. I was most definitely not his lid. It’s a revolving restaurant, do you remember? Yeah. When I heard that I thought it was going to be literally spinning. I was so bummed when it wasn’t but then how would that have worked with food and drinks on the tables, not to mention the people. It was so crowded. LOL!!! Yes. Sometimes I do ask myself, “What the hell? Spinning? Lol, lol, lol.

That’s a really nice area for a family vacation. Have you been to Holland? That is an awesome place. It’s all about the Dutch and tulips. Super nice town. Get some wooden shoes! :)

      1. OMG, that is crazy that you had the worst date of your life there! I do NOT remember that the restaurant was spinning?? I feel like we were on the main floor, ground level. This would have been 1988. I wonder if I wrote down the name of the restaurant somewhere? I’ll have to look. I think we stayed at a really nice Holiday Inn in Dearborn. We also had a great meal there, I think it was called The Chambertin? Something like that. We had the matchbook for years, so I remember it better.

I may have been to Holland as a little kid with my parents, but I’m not sure. In their later years, they went back for the tulip festival once or twice. We will definitely check it out next month. We heard to make sure to get blueberry donuts at Bowerman’s on 8th. I’m just hoping it’s not cold! I’m tired of 50 degree weather.

        1. Yes. The worst date ever. And no, the restaurant didn’t spin. It rotated very slowly. I heard rotate and I thought it meant it would be spinning! Lol. We were way up high. – I had to look it up. – It’s still open but the restaurant doesn’t revolve anymore. It stopped in 1988. Lol. And it’s on the 71st floor, very top of the building.

The Chambertin is no longer there and neither is that Holiday Inn. The only Holiday Inn to have have a 4 star restaurant in it. What a shame they’re both gone. Depending on your matchbook, there’s a white one selling for 4 bucks on ebay. Lol.

I think you’ll luck out with the weather. It’ll probably be hot and humid then.

          1. OMG, I found my diary! It was actually our first anniversary, so 1987. We rode the Dearborn Trolley, ate at Silky Sullivans the first night. Second night was The Chambertin, and third night was dinner at The Rotisserie at the Hyatt Regency. Afterwards, we went to the revolving lounge at the top! I don’t even remember that! Glad I wrote it all down❣️spent two days at Henry Ford and Greenfield Village. We were living it up🤣
