MONDAYS, MUSIC AND ME

Hi, everybody. It’s after 9pm so it’s a late night post for me. Geesh. What a week it’s been. When I posted on the 1st, I had every intention of posting every day, and I was so ready! Then Covid decided to be an asshole and visit my home, getting all of us sick. The kids pushed through, and they felt like they just had a really bad case of the flu. I ended up in the ER. The last time I had Covid, my dr. prescribed me a medication called Paxlovid. If you take it within the first few days of a positive Covid test, the Paxlovid will lessen the severity of Covid and keep it from getting worse. For me, Paxlovid was a lifesaver! This time having Covid, kicked my ass all the way to the ER! I thought for sure they would give me Paxlovid as soon as I got there, and I would be on my way to feeling a million times better. – NOPE. – Covid has already mutated and Paxlovid doesn’t work with this strain. How wild is that?
So, I got fluids and antibiotics via an IV, a couple of Ibuprofen and some Zofran for the nausea and vomiting. That was the treatment, so, basically it is a flu. The body aches, the coughing and sudden feelings of exhaustion, are lingering on, but I’ll take it! Anything is better than full on Covid. My only hope is that this is it for me. With cold, flu, and Covid season upon us, I think I’ve already paid my dues.

I can’t believe we’ve already blown past the first week in September. Why can’t it go as slow as a slug, like hot n’ sweaty summer does? It’s almost 10pm, and it’s still 78 degrees out. All this week is supposed to be near 80, which is a whole helluva lot better than triple digit heat or heat in the 90s, but I’m looking for highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. Those temps mean open doors and windows, front and back, and I am beyond ready for that!

I haven’t really done a whole lot since Covid. I’ve caught up on some reading, and I have managed to work on my never-ending 2023 Halloween quilt. It may look familiar to some of you who saw it when I first started it back in 2023. Good lord. My quilting moves along at the pace of slug-ass summer.

Will it get finished this year? Who knows, but stay tuned, miracles do happen.

For my Monday music, I’ve chosen ‘Goodbye Stranger’ by the group Supertramp.
Also, a thank you and R.I.P. to the co-founder of Supertramp, Rick Davies, who died Sept. 6th from a blood cancer. He was 81.

I hope all of you have had a wonderful start to this beautiful month of September, and I hope your week ahead brings you many smiles and lots of laughter. Laughter is such a great cleanse for the soul, isn’t it? Oh! I’ll be around visiting and catching up with all of you tomorrow. I know I’ve missed a lot, but I don’t mind reading if you don’t mind the late visits and comments. And another, oh! What did you guys do for the Labor Day Weekend? (If you celebrate.)

  1. Lows in the fifties?? I would freeze to death!

Love the quilt. Hope the covid is now leaving you. I get my vaccination every year when I get the flu one, so far I’ve been lucky and never had it.

    1. Lol. I love the cold and I love snow, lots and lots of snow! I love winter the way most people love summer. – Thank you for saying you love the quilt. Omgosh. That quilt just makes me laugh so much. I have no idea when I’ll ever get it done! I’m hoping in time for this Halloween, but we’ll see. – The Covid is almost completely gone, thank goodness! And I’m very happy that you have not gotten Covid because it is wretched. – At least for me it was, twice! I got the vaccine/boosters but I still got it anyway so I’m thinking they might now work for me. The flu and shingles shots I get every year.

  2. Oh man!!! I’m so sorry you got so sick from Covid! I’m glad you were able to get the right treatment. That reminds me of how sick I got from influenza in January 2024. And I got the vaccine, so it didn’t help me at all. Boo! Do you think you’ll get the Covid vaccine booster? We quit after the first three shots. We had Covid twice, so it didn’t seem to make a difference.

My son and his family were here for a week over Labor Day. They just left on Sunday. It was so great to see them and spend time with our granddaughter. She turns two next week, so we celebrated while she was here.

I loved Supertramp in the late ’70’s! Breakfast in America was a classic album. I’ll be traveling soon, so I’ll talk to you at the end of the month! XO

    1. Thank you. I’m just thankful the worst of it is gone. I have nothing against getting the booster shots, but here I am, like you, with Covid twice. I’ll just get my flu and shingles shots and call it good. – I’m happy you got to visit with your son and his family and celebrate your granddaughter’s birthday, too! Family visits – well, depending on which family members… Lol. – are good for the soul. – It’s weird seeing the band members that you used to listen to get old and die. It’s the same with teachers. I know we all get older, but I’ll always see the bands and my teachers like they were when I saw them last. – Where are you traveling to? I probably need to hop on over to your blog and find out! xoxo

  3. I’m glad you’re feeling better. I’m so ready for chilly days and the colors of fall. A very hot summer is almost over.

I linked this post to Happy Tuesday. I’m happy you’re better.

Have a fabulous day and rest of the week, Karen. Love you bunches. ♥

    1. Aw, thank you for linking me, and thank you for being happy for me. Your kind words mean so much to me. – I hope you get chilly days soon and the beautiful fall colors. We get some color here in Boise, but I think we’re going to pop over to Utah to see the more colors this year. – Thank you for always putting a smile on my face with your comments Sandee. Love you too. xoxo

  4. Covid sucks. Glad you’re on the mend. I’ve been limping along with middle schoolers in an art class. I also wish for cooler days. Soon? Maybe?

    1. Thank you. And yes, Covid truly does suck and I so hope I am done for the year. – Middle school art, high school, elementary school. I’m in. What projects are you working on? – I wish for cooler days for you too.

  5. I’m glad you’re recovering well, Karen! And yes, hopefully you’ll be immune from anything else now. If you want highs in the mid 70s and lows in the 50s, we’ve got that exactly now. Too soon for me and I’d be happy to switch with you! 😆 Love the quilt! If you don’t finish it this year, there’s always the next one. Old musicians are leaving us weekly, it seems, and that kind of drives home the fact that we’re not young anymore either. On the other hand, we watched 80-year-old Pete Townsend and 81-year-old Roger Daltrey put on one hell of an energetic show last week, so there’s hope! 😉

    1. Thank you, Debbie. You can have all the heat you want from here. I am beyond ready for fall. Today was as close as we got to an actual fall day, and I am ecstatic! – I am determined to finish that damn quilt this month! It hangs out in a corner, giving me the side eye all the time. I need to get it made, used for the season and then packed away for next season! Lol. – You know, as far as the musicians go. We are losing quite a few, but I think their health and lifestyles have a lot to do with that too because aging in today’s world is not the same as way back when. Thankfully, the medical field continues progressing and aging like in days gone by seems to be regressing. It’s sad to lose them, but it’s a fate none of us can escape, but I am hanging onto this lifetime as long as I can, and I’ll be reincarnated and hanging on to another lifetime! : ) – Rock on Pete and Roger! And all the rest of the rock gods!

  6. Hello from the UK

Sorry to hear you were ill. I am also sorry you were not aware that in 2020 the authorities rebranded the ‘flu which is why the ‘flu almost disappeared from the statistics to be replaced by COVID 19. Rebranding is standard business practice when sales are falling.

If you take the COVID and ‘flu shots then you will merely get two lots for the same thing which makes the pharma companies happy.

Personally I wouldn’t bother as I realised in the 1980’s that the ‘flu shots made one ill so what was the point.

Still one never can be sure what is in each vial so maybe they won’t always harm people.

On a lighter note, I loved listening to Supertramp back in the 70’s, good to be reminded of them.

    1. Hi! Thanks for stopping by. – I was not aware of the rebranding of the flu. I thought and still think the flu and Covid are two different illnesses caused by different viruses altogether and treated with separate vaccines. So, I’m agreeing to disagree on that but agreeing wholeheartedly about listening to Supertramp. I don’t hear their songs often anymore, not even on the “oldies” stations.

      1. Thank you for your reply. If you reread what you said in your post you say of your Covid “That was the treatment, so, basically it is a flu.”

I used to think vaccines were of some use but not for the ‘flu as people fell ill anyway. If you look into the ingredients of vaccines you will find that they contain things that are supposed to provoke disease as that is supposed to be the point as they say this trains the body to recognise the disease next time.

In reality you are just being poisoned and that is what the ‘flu is, a toxic poisoning. Being injected with vaccines is just making money for the pharma industry at your expense.

        1. We’ve all been poisoned and continue to be poisoned by lots of things, not just vaccines. I was being poisoned when I had stage 4 cancer too, but that poison saved my life. For me, the vaccines/the poisons are worth the risk.

          1. Thank you for your reply. May I ask if you write about your cancer on your blog? I had a diagnosis of cancer, stage 1 melanoma, in 2020 for which I had immunotherapy until I stopped after 9 sessions when I worked out the prime cause in the first place, sodium nitrite in bacon I ate.
