WORD OF THE YEAR- jan. 2

WIPs
Works In Progress

Here’s a hint…

That’s right! Unfinished craft projects! So, A LOT of crocheting, cross stitching, quilting, watercolors, etc. in 2025. When you realize that you have more crafting time behind you than you do in front of you, it’s time to get the crafting shit done! Aaaannnd, if I run out of crafting time and end up scattered in Lake Michigan. I have a plan.

The Plan
Give everything to my kids for them to finish! I know, not fucking happening. That’s okay though, at least everything will already be labeled and in totes for when they have that big yard sale! I’m no fool.

This is me trying not to watch from the afterlife as my kids haul all of my wonderful craft things off to GoodWill or the trash.

So. That’s it. My word of the year is WIPs and I plan to WIP it real good!

Are any of you choosing a word of the year?
How about a phrase for the year?
Did you make any New Year’s resolutions??
Yep. I’m still the same nosey bitch in 2025 that I was in 2024 so share with me in the comments!

IT’S FRIDAY AND I HAVE A QUESTION

Good afternoon! It’s a beautiful sunny day here but it’s only in the 40s so I’m inside working on my to-do list. Unless it warms up my to-do list will be my weekend! I know that sounds boring but this shit isn’t gonna’ get done on its own!

Okay. So I have a question. Do any of you have one of those bottom kitchen cabinets? I think they’re called blind cabinets. They’re so deep and long that there’s no way you can reach all the stuff that ends up in the back end. I hope somebody knows what I’m talking about. It looks something like this…
Mine is this way but with a shelf in the middle.

My question is…
What do you put in this cabinet??
Mine has pots and pans, cake pans, lids, cookie sheets, muffin tins and I’m guessing anything else that never finds a place in the kitchen. I honestly don’t know because there’s stuff way in the back that I can’t reach. I’m pretty sure it’s all kitchen stuff though.

I’m thinking about a.) putting a flippin’ light in there somewhere! And b.) putting some boxes of non-kitchen stuff way in the back. Just using it for some extra storage space, ya’ ‘know? What do you guys think?
My sister’s blind cabinet had a lazy Susan in it and the cereal kept getting stuck or something would fall off the lazy Susan and then it wouldn’t turn. It was a pain so I know I don’t want one of those.
Over on Reddit, the most popular answer was to turn it into a cozy place for your cats but I don’t have any cats.
So. I’m open to suggestions.

That’s just one of my to-do list things. Today is cooking the pumpkins in the Instant Pot for some pumpkin bread, pumpkin butter, and pumpkin soup! And, I might even get the duster out to get to these ceiling fans. Who knows. Suddenly, I’ve just become obsessed with a to-do list. The holiday cleaning bug has hit!

Do you ever get obsessed with getting things done? To be honest, this obsession doesn’t hit me very often so I’m just gonna’ go with it and get as much done as I can before laziness takes over the obsession fades. I’m sure my future to-do lists will have winter markets and lots of books on them. Oh, and baking! Lots of baking.

What’s on your to-do list?

MOODY MONDAY

May we all make it through the election with the same number of family and friends we had before the election.
And I hope that, whatever the outcome of this election, both sides will conduct themselves with dignity and please, no violence. I’m so tired of the hatefulness.

I AM THANKFUL FOR THE RAINY DAYS

Today, I am joining the Ten Things of Thankful (TToT) blog hop via Messy Mimi’s Meanderings. Thank you, Mimi.

Well, today has brought more than 10 things to be thankful for so I’ll share 10 here and save the rest for my journal.

  1. Loud thunderstorms!
  2. Lots of rain.
  3. Amazon boxes.
  4. Hot tea in special tea cups.
  5. Endless books to read.
  6. Water. I am always thankful for water.
  7. All of my crafting machines.
  8. Warm fuzzy yarn for soon-to-be warm fuzzy slippers.
  9. Pumpkin bread.
  10. And last, but not least this crazy life I live.

What are some things that you’re thankful for today? Be sure to share in the comments.

I hope you’re enjoying your weekend. You can share that in the comments too so we can all share in your joy or just sit back and silently judge you for a weekend spent shopping on Amazon. That’s just crazy. I mean seriously, who spends the weekend on Amazon buying their own Christmas presents NOT ME.

**** Don’t forget about that whole setting your clocks back thing.

NOVEMBER – The waiting is the hardest part…

Hello Everyone! Happy November!
Today, I am thankful for all of you and this crazy thing we share called life. This crazy life that seems to get crazier and crazier every day and then, when you think it can’t get any crazier it takes us to moments that leave me with my eyes popping out, my mouth hanging open and my ears on fire! What the hell are we witnessing??!!
It seriously keeps me up at night.

Here to help me put my anxiety on the back burner (for now) is
15 and Meowing with…

FRIENDLY FRIDAY FILL-INS

1. I – wish they would do away with – daylight savings time.

2. This month, I plan to – attend Winter Markets, read new books, and crochet.

3. The thought of who our next President may be – gives me nightmares.

4. Now that – Autumn is in full swing, – it’s time to – enjoy the beautiful colors, the cooler weather, and lots of baking!

Where have I been and what have I been doing? Trying to survive the summer heat without my flesh melting off of my bones. I am, and forever will be thankful for frigid A/C! It was sooooo nice.

I also did this seemingly never-ending purge of just stuff in my space and I’m thankful to have knocked A LOT of that out because now I have more room for all the stuff Santa will bring!

Since the temperatures have been cooling off, I’ve been super thankful to sleep with my bedroom window open and smell the snow heading our way. It’s fabulous and I can’t wait!

I’m thankful to have made it to the pumpkin patch twice this year and to a festival that had 1,000 carved and lit pumpkins, a chili cook-off, and trunk or treating but those are stories for another day. It was fun even with a couple of hiccups along the way and now I’m looking forward to the Winter festivals.

I hope you’re all doing well. I’m obsessed with our upcoming election. No big secret, Kamala Harris got my vote.
I voted for my daughter and granddaughters because I don’t want Trump “protecting them, whether they like it or not.” The only protection my girls need is to be protected from him!

Okay, well… I can’t promise that will be my last political outburst because anymore it’s just a random pop-off. I’m just thankful to be able to voice my opinion, at least for now anyway…

THURSDAY 13 – Welcome August, you hot, sweaty beast!

Good Morning! Happy Thursday! It’s time again for Thursday 13. Just a list of 13 things. It’s my new go-to post for all Thursdays and again, a big thank you to Liz over at Laws of Gravity.

First, Happy August and Happy National Coffee Month!

I don’t know who wrote this meme but they obviously don’t have kids or pets because trust me, there are a lot of other odors that come to mind before burning wood.

Okay, I’m done with the odor rant, on to my Thursday 13 list.

1 – Since it is National Coffee Month I’ll share my favorite coffee with you (outside of my home brew.)

I love iced or hot mochas with raspberry flavoring and NO whip but I never get it from this place…
Their coffee isn’t worth their prices. You can get better coffee and better service at other places for half the price. I go to Dutch Brothers. They have great coffee, great people and it’s always upbeat.

What’s your favorite coffee (outside of your home brew) and where do you go to get it?

2 – Today is also…

Where would we be without our besties??

3 – And another National Day…

I’ve never had raspberry cream pie. I like raspberries but that looks like custard and I don’t like custard anything.

4 – And my last National Day…

Let’s give it up for The Who! I would’ve loved to have seen them in concert.

5 – National Coffee Month really is magickal.

6 – I actually do this every month.

7 –HappyLughnasadh! This really is a special day. I’ll be making bread today and lighting candles and just being thankful.

8 – Did you know?

9 – While I was in the kitchen washing up some dishes my Alexa was playing the 70s disco station but when I said, “Alexa, stop” she didn’t stop. I repeated it 3 more times, “Alexa, stop!” But she just kept playing and playing and playing, and when I realized I was a grown-ass woman standing in my kitchen yelling at an inanimate object I just said, fuck this and pulled the plug on my little pal Alexa. And then I laughed so hard at myself for yelling at, literally, no one.

Ironically, the song that wouldn’t stop playing was “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now”  by McFadden & Whitehead. I have so many sweet memories of rollerskating to this song with my high school boyfriend. It’s crazy how fast time goes by.

What’s a song that brings up sweet memories for you?

10 – I joined a Use Up Your Yarn Stash n’ Scraps Challenge and the only “rule” is that you can’t buy any more yarn until you’ve used up your stash n’ scraps. This was part of my process…

11 – Random fact. Did you know if you put your phone on airplane mode you can play the games on your phone ad free? But… While your phone is in airplane mode any calls you get will go straight to voicemail.

12 – Do you have any August birthdays coming up? We have ZERO birthdays in August in my family. I’m pretty sure October has the most birthdays.

13 – This is my favorite and it really is the coolest.
This morning I pulled 2 tarot cards. One for this day and one for this month and wow, talk about a double whammy of all good things.

The Ten of Cups and the Ten of Pentacles. –
(The condensed version.)

Both cards represent family, happiness, abundance, and financial security. It’s one of the best combo card pulls. This is a time when we see the fruits of our labor. Emotional and financial security is ready and waiting for us to celebrate with our families. Life is good and will continue to be good.

The thing that ties this all together with a nice little bow is that I pulled these cards on Lughnasadh! The beginning of harvest season. How cool is that? In this month of August, we all have the opportunity to receive an abundance of happiness and stability, both emotional and financial.
Truly, my cup runneth over.

I hope that all of you are reaping a harvest of all things good and true. This is most definitely the month to open your arms wide and accept the goodness that is yours!

Do any of you work with tarot cards or other oracle cards?
Or have you ever had your cards read?

Today’s deck is The Witches Tarot by Ellen Cannon Reed. I’ve had this deck forrreevvver. It’s my go-to deck and my total vibe. Definitely my favorite.

THURSDAY 13 – Only 37 days…

Good Morning! Happy Thursday! It’s time again for Thursday 13. Just a list of 13 things. It’s my new go-to post for all Thursdays and again, a big thank you to Liz over at Laws of Gravity.

1 – Only 37 days until…

2 – If Idaho had a theme song right now it would be…

3 –
4 – I’m thankful our power stayed on yesterday. Idaho Power was cutting power off in some areas as a safety precaution.

5 – (Not my photo) This is Boise yesterday. Our air quality sucks right now.

6 – I am so thankful that Idaho does not have as many fires as Oregon!

7 – It’s supposed to be in the 90s this weekend and I feel like I should pull out my winter gear! Holy shit, no triple digits?? Maybe it’ll snow! My little pals doing a snow dance for me.

8 – Yesterday we had a chance of thunderstorms. We got some wind and my plants got blown over. That’s it, that’s all.

9 – Tonight is movie night. Deadpool & Wolverine. Hoping to get the super cool popcorn bucket because well, it’s cool. Also. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are hot.

10 – I got this needle minder for my cross stitch. No more lost needles! Go me!
I got it on Etsy from Beckadoodles.

This is her Halloween set and I think I need to get that too.

11 – Counting down the days until our favorite pumpkin patch opens…

12 – Thursday is also Thirsty Thursday and Thankful Thursday.

I’m thankful for water, AC, and firemen!

13 – Today is the last Thursday of July. And just like that more than half of the year is over.

I hope you all have many, many things to be thankful for and that none of you are thirsty! It’s almost the weekend again and I just feel like such a slug for staying in out of the heat but between the heat and smoke. It really is killer out there! What are you guys up to this weekend? Anything thrilling and spine-chilling to report?

Oh. I need reading recommendations. What’s a good book???
