T.G.I.F – Goodbye 2025 – 1/2

Seriousleeeeeeeeee.
2025 was beyond a cah-raaaaazy. I mean, really, what a complete and total shit show! I hope all of it stays in the past because I’m really looking forward to a lighter and brighter 2026. Of course, given this past year, I can’t help but hold my breath waiting for whatever fresh hell awaits us. But… I promised myself that 2026 will be a year of observing, not absorbing, and that will make all the difference.

I also have a plan written in my journal to help keep me from falling down that rabbit hole of doom-scrolling and news headlines, and so far, it’s working for me. I don’t know that I’ll succeed every day, I mean I have kids and grandkids, so I need to be informed, but I learned that there’s a big difference between being informed and being obsessed. I was obsessed, and obsession is a dark place.

And one more thing that has helped me tremendously was slowly weening myself off of the chaos. I’ve been doing it for a while, but in December I just let the axe fall and so far, so good. Deleting all social media accounts and people off of my personal social media accounts that were filled with negativity and hatefulness has made a HUGE difference, and I just decided that I’m not bringing any of that crap into my new year. Last year was enough, and what an eye-opener… It wasn’t just true colors being revealed, it was moral compasses and wow, you think you know someone, right? Geesh.

So, today, I have zero errands to run and no place to be, so I’ll be home doing laundry, taking down Christmas and hopefully practicing my watercolors, drinking bottomless cups of peppermint tea, and watching/listening to my British detective shows. – UNLESS, it snows. Then I’ll be outside just standing in it, surrounded by its awesomeness. We’ve gotten zero snow so far, and having a green Christmas was a huge bummer, so if we get snow, I’ll be outside for however long it lasts.

Anyway, what will all of you be doing on this 2nd day of 2026? Any plans for the weekend? It’s too cold to do anything here. I got an electric blanket for Christmas and I could snuggle under that and read my weekend away, it’s soooo cozy. I won’t but I could. Do any of you sleep with an electric blanket? I never had one until this Christmas, and I just love it. My sister had electric mattress covers, and now I’m thinking I may get one too so my top and bottom are nice n’ toasty! Lol.

Okay, I’m out. I hope you’re all having a great day and that your weekend will be even better!

  1. You snuggle under an electric blanket? I used to have one, but it goes on the mattress under the sheet. You turn it on to warm the bed before you get in and the upper layers get warmed too, for snuggling under. I wonder now about the ones you drape over yourself while watching TV, how safe are they and how long is the power cord? I can see in my mind people getting up and tripping over them.

  2. I do my best to ignore the news. No wonder so many people have depression and mental health issues; we are bombarded by negativity 24/7. Getting outside is a great antidote if you don’t live in the faux Arctic like I do. Holy cow, that bomb cyclone wind and snow we had last week was no joke! 50 mph freezing winds. I’m hibernating for now.)

I’d love to see your watercolor projects!

    1. I agree. We are bombarded by negativity 24/7. Now I check in once a week just to see where things are happening and if my family and friends are in a safe place. – Spending time outside is always a plus, and I think the best pick me up you can have. Even just taking a 5-minute break sitting on the patio helps. – Those bomb cyclones are crazy, but those winds are wicked! The snow cyclones I’m okay with. The 50mph winds, not so much. – My watercolors are mainly me just goofing off, but this year I joined a watercolor challenge with Andrea Nelson. Just 30 days in our practice books, it’s fun. I might post some. I’ll think about that. : )

  3. I had an electric blanket when I was a kid, haven’t had one in decades. Of course, it doesn’t really get cold enough here for me to need one. (Lately, I find myself in the morning with all my covers kicked off.) Right now I’m doing laundry and reading blogs. A nice Sunday.

    1. Well, I’ve always been one to sleep with my windows cracked open during the winter, but I would close them if they got below 35. With the electric blanket, they’re cracked all the time now, of course, our winter is more like a spring now. Such a bummer.
