I thought this time of year would NEVER get here!!!
Nevermind that it’s going to be 95 degrees today. I will be celebrating this September 1st with a pumpkin spiced latte from one of our local baristas and DIVINE!
I know. I know. You’re all thinking, “calm your tits, Mimi, we could have an Indian summer.” Agreed and that’s fine. Even I would enjoy said possible Indian summer but it still doesn’t negate the fact that September is the month fall officially begins and thereby it is officially pumpkin spice season!

So, please don’t piss in my…..
And let’s all embrace this pumpkiny, spicey, time of year!
So hey! Happy September!!!

Sorry. I couldn’t resist this hokey take on “Ice, Ice, Baby” by Vanilla Ice.
❀ On a serious note. My thoughts are with all of you in the wake of the hurricane and the recent shooting in Texas. Mother Nature and sadly, mankind, seem to be our greatest adversaries. ❀
Tomorrow is Labor Day in the U.S. and the end to our final long weekend of summer. I hope it’s been a weekend filled with fun in the sun, BBQs, and lots of great memories made with family and friends.

Anybody have any great summer recipes they’d like to share? Just because it’s September doesn’t mean we’re in a sudden deep freeze. Summer yumminess still applies!

Here’s one of my favorite summer salads.
This really is so delicious and I don’t miss the potatoes one bit!
Also. You really didn’t think you were gonna’ get outta’ this post without at least one pumpkiny spicey recipe, did you???
Here’s one I haven’t tried but I can’t wait to make!
Okay. I really need to wind this up and get it posted before it gets much later. Currently, I am drinking coffee and I’m “in search of” a specific package of DMC floss that has obviously sprouted feet and walked the fuck right outta’ my tote of all things cross-stitchy.
So irritating when things aren’t where you thought you left them.
Getting old sucks.
Happy September, Happy Labor Day, Happy Monday and Happy Almost Fall!
Cue Beyonce…

Be well.

  1. My favorite recipe,

Take a chicken breast with bone and skin, turn BBQ grill to real hot, add chicken breast and cook. Turn chicken after drinking a 1/2 can of beer, after two beers baste in bbq sauce using indirect heat, throw an ear of corn in boiling water, cook about 10 minutes, Plate chicken, smother ear with butter. crack one more beer and enjoy!

Hint, if chicken is underdone, drink slower, or drink one more beer.

  2. The cauliflower ‘potato’ salad looks interesting, I’ll copy it down later. I don’t have a favourite summer recipe, I try to avoid cooking when it’s hot and just eat salads. With fruit included so it’s dinner and dessert all at once.
I used to have a spiced apple potpourri mix from Avon that came in a little wicker pumpkin, the scent lasted for years! but I’ve never been able to find any since. We don’t even get Avon here in Australia anymore, let alone wonderful potpourris.

    • Mmmmm. I love fruit too and in the summer mostly stick with salads but doing the whole low carb plan I find cauliflower to be a nice substitute for the pasta. I haven’t seen an Avon book in years. I’m sure they still sell over here. I’ll have to check for that pumpkin!

    • Ooohh. I can’t wait to make these and try them!! And yay! I’m so happy to have someone enjoy all things pumpkin! I wish it would cool off so I could start baking today! – Enjoy your Labor Day, don’t labor too hard. πŸ™‚ I see myself laboring with lifting a couple of cocktails today chillin’ in the AC with ‘Mind Hunters’ on Netflix. πŸ™‚ xoxo Hugs, hugs, hugs to you!

      • I’ve not done much today. I think I can finish off the day doing about the same, including the cocktails about 8 this evening. We just finished watching Mind Hunters a couple of days ago. Shows how Criminal Minds got their start.

        Hugs right back, Karen. πŸ™‚

      • Hahaha. I like your style Sandee! πŸ˜€ Mind Hunters is so interesting. I wasn’t sure if the show was based in fact or not but apparently, it’s based on the real FBI agents of that time and of course the serial killers. Which, by the way, serial killer sounds much better than sequence killer.

  3. I do enjoy fall, but not into the pumpkin spice. Then again, I’m not into coffee, either, so…

I’ll forward the cauliflower recipe to the roommate who loves potato salad and is low carb. Thanks.

    • Omgosh. I think coffee is what flows thru my veins! Except today. My schedule got all turned around. I missed my morning ritual which includes missing coffee and eating, and I have felt like crap ALL stinkin’ day! – I’m making the cauliflower potato salad tonight. I hope your roommate likes it. Thanks for forwarding it along. πŸ™‚

  4. That video was a good reminder to me to get my ass to Trader Joes before they run out f pumpkin spice stuff!!
We had a nice weekend. It was my grandson’s 2nd birthday and was all things Thomas! My son and his fiancΓ©e came to visit and my husband smoked ribs, pork and brisket, I made a new broccoli slaw recipe that was ok but had a great topping. All you do is break up a package of ramen noodles in a pan, add slivered almonds and a tablespoon or two of melted butter. Bake for about 10 minutes. Added a tasty crunch to the salad and I think I will keep a plastic Baggie of it on hand for other salads.

    • That’s an interesting recipe with the Ramen. I’m going to give that a try. Thanks! Your family time sounds wonderful and delicious. πŸ™‚ Happy Birthday to your grandson! We have ONE Trader Joe’s by us and it’s right downtown and you have to park in a parking garage to walk to the store. It’s such a pain. We have a similar store in a not so congested side of town and it’s conveniently located next to a Joann’s. πŸ™‚

  5. Love your enthusiasm, Karen! πŸ˜€ For me, summer never lasts long enough. Pumpkin is a taste I never acquired, but that cauliflower potato salad looks delicious! I made cauliflower mashed potatoes for my husband once and he turned his nose up at them. (He’s not a veggie-lover, unfortunately.) Summer recipe? How about some cheese, wine, figs and crostini, sitting on a patio somewhere? My idea of the good life! 😎 Happy September, er Pumpkin Spice Season! πŸŽƒ

    • Because I love you so I’m going to ignore your comments about summer and pumpkin and just move on to your summer recipe. Hahahahahahaha. I almost bought some figs yesterday damn it! I did buy some phenomenal cheese today tho and I have plenty of wine so I think I’ll find my way to the patio this evening. Cheers!

    • Mine is winter but fall is a kiss away. My little sister is all things fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving… And I am all about Christmas! Fall really is so beautiful tho…

  6. Oh Mimi – I don’t share your enthusiasm for September arriving. It was May only yesteday! Where did it all go?

September reminds me of going back to school. πŸ˜• It’s that subtle change of temperature and blatant change of mood from carefree, sunkissed happiness to, ok, serious heads back on – school starts here! And the UK does not do Halloween well.

We never used to celebrate it at all and now, all we do is try to emulate the US. And we do it badly, in my opinion after experiencing Halloween in North America for 10 years.

It’s just another cynical ploy to make people buy cheap plastic crap and push kids a little closer to a diabetes diagnosis. The only good thing about September for me is that it is closer to next May!

Having said all that, thank you for the recipes, the cauliflower one sounds brilliant as I don’t ever eat potatoes and the cupcake one looks interesting – I will have a look. Happy Fall – am really envious that you embrace it in a way I really should try to adopt! 😎

    • Hahahahahah. The UK doesn’t do Halloween well??? Shocking! I can promise you the U.S. knows nothing about a proper tea and I think that’s as it should be. If I visit the UK I want authentic UK. I can have cheap plastic and diabetes over here! And I suspect a huge majority of the UK feels the same about Halloween. There really are some things and people (Piers Morgan) that should not cross the pond! πŸ™‚ – Oh, and I get that fall isn’t your “cup of tea” and that’s okay. There are some years when I feel it all flies by so fast and I never want summer to end. This year is different tho. I do so love the cooler weather and especially my beloved snow. πŸ™‚
