OCTOBER TWENTY EIGHT – Missed Connection Monday – Mimi “Flu” the coop!

“Missed Connection Monday” is brought to you by your local Craigslist. These are real “love notes” that strangers leave for other strangers in the ‘Personals’ section of Craigslist. Or as I like to call it –
‘Your local serial killer hunting ground.
BRUNETTE AT WALMART
I saw you and wanted to talk to you, but was with my two young ones. I thought we shared a fleeting glance. Was I wrong?
You had a cart full and I felt like there was a possibility of meeting again.
If by chance you see this, tell me what was in your cart so I know it’s you.
***Hhhmm. What was in my cart? Bullets for my husband’s gun. ZERO possibility of meeting again and no, we did not share a fleeting glance. We shared an “I’m here to get tampons and chocolate and bullets leave me the fuck alone” glare. But thanks. And as they say at Walmart, have a nice day.

IRONWOOD
We danced a few times last night and really didn’t get a chance to talk much. I wanted to get your number when I went to ask you were already gone. I would love to talk more. If you see this let’s grab a drink. Tell me what I was so I know it’s you.. Hope to hear from ya!

OMG BARNES AND NOBLE
Wow, what else can I say. We had a brief conversation at Barnes and Noble on Tues. We exchanged several glances in the store and waved and said goodbye when you left. You are short, dark hair. Super nice, great smile, and extremely hot! I definitely would have attempted to have more conversation but you were with someone. (I am pretty sure she knew I wanted to talk more) No idea, other than this, how to find you again. OR perhaps you will be in the same spot again? Tell me what section of the store we first met in and what color you were wearing.
***Super easy. We met at the coffee bar. I was wearing black and you can find me right here at my blog! Finally, somebody missed ME!
Hi everyone… (Waving from the little known town of Flu-ville.) Holy smokes. When this flu hits, it REALLY hits! Man… I’m still kinda’ floating on the tail end of things but feeling SO much better than I was. My son was hit hard with it and almost hospitalized. Thankfully he’s nearly a hundred percent now.

Boy, I’ll tell ya’, this flu is no joke. I don’t know if it’s different than in years past or I’m just fucking old but once it gets a hold of you it’s a tough one to shake.
Also. I’d just like to state for the record that I did, in fact, have my flu shot so I think this is bullshit.

Also bullshit? This menu.
How have all of you been? I hope none of you have been down with this flu or a cold or anything else that makes you feel like total crap!

Anybody got any snow yet? No snow here in the valley… YET! I’m waiting. A dusting on the mountains and a town 45 minutes away got 4″. So weird.

It’s a brand new week. Who’s got plans? There is always much to do around here. Last night was pumpkin carving night. My DIL is the queen of all things horror and her pumpkin was very cool. She and my son LOVE the Stephen King movie, IT.
I made them a couple of IT Pennywise pics.
A lit’l too creepy for me but they dig it.

Also. Here’s the latest hats I’ve made. All super soft and warm.
It’s time to tie some hats and scarves to the trees for the homeless!
It’s getting cold!

Well… I think it’s time to hit up the B.R.A.T menu for those mouth-watering breakfast choices… What’ll it be?? Bananas, rice, applesauce or toast?? Hhhm.
It’ll be coffee. That’s what it’ll be!
MIMI’S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY –
Be well.

  1. Sorry about getting the flu after you had the flu shot. We get our flu shots every September and haven’t had the flu in years. I hope we don’t get the flu.

Love the Craig’s List adds. I’d pass on these for sure.

Next weekend we’re going on a cruise. Just the hubby and I and on our boat, not the big ship. We enjoy our kind of boating much better.

Have a fabulous day and week, Karen. Big hug. ♥

    1. This the first time ever that I’ve gotten the flu after getting the shot. It’s so inconvenient. I just hate being down.- Your cruise sounds like my kind of cruise. 🙂 Yay you for having beautiful weather to cruise in in the fall. BUG hugs right back! ❤

  2. That flu sounds horrible, but I’m glad you and your son are feeling better now. I guess the flu shot wasn’t strong enough? Never had one, myself (egg allergy), but my husband gets them every year, and so far, so good. Knock wood!

I wonder if those people on Craiglist ever get answers to their ads. Who would be dumb enough to respond? We’ve all heard the horror stories.

Those Pennywise pics are perfectly creepy. 🙂 And your idea about hats and scarves for the homeless is excellent.

No Halloween plans, here. Sorry to see October end, though. November is usually a miserable month, weather-wise. Cold and wet, making for achey joints. 😛

    1. This is the first time I’ve gotten the flu with the shot. It’s crazy. I hate being sick. But, it’s nearly over and we’re all alive and well. – I would love to hear the stories of people who actually answered them and it wasn’t a situation that made the ten o’clock news. Maybe some of them work out. Who knows. People do online dating and it works… – Pennywise is creepy. All of those horror flicks are creepy to me. Also. The idea about the hat and scarves is not my idea I’m just following suit. Every year people hang hats, gloves and scarves on the trees for the homeless, sometimes socks and other things and I know of a couple of places downtown that put out racks of winter coats for free. – I’m sorry to see October end because we’re that much closer to the end of the year! What the heck happened to 2019??? And I totally hope they let Barbra Walters ring in 2020. 🙂

      1. Even better with racks of coats! They do a winter coat drive here every year, but I hadn’t heard about the tree idea before. Inspiring! And, what a great idea to have Barbara Walters announce the arrival of 2020! Wonder if she’ll go for it…:)

        1. I love the racks of coats. I don’t know which business started it but a lot of them do it now and I do my best to make sure I did a little shopping at each place. Such a huge need.

  3. I hope you’re feeling better. Getting the flu sucks. Last year I got hit bad on Christmas day…

Nope, no snow here. And if we do get some… Well, it’ll probably make national news. I know Burbank got a flurry a few years back and everyone took video. I think it lasted five minutes.

    1. Ugh. Being sick on Christmas is THE worst! I am much better, thank you. Still a little iffy but I’m getting there. – Wow. I don’t think I could ever live in a place that doesn’t have snow or at least easy access to it when I want it! 😀

  4. Oh wow, I have not heard of the flu going around here yet. Was it the stomach flu or the flu flu? The shot never covers stomach viruses, though many people think that’s what it’s for. But yes, BRAT diet for stomach virus, which sucks!

Snow is in the forecast for this coming weekend, which also sucks. Last week, I went to First Pour which is a Cleveland tradition. It’s when our most famous brewery taps it Christmas ale. It was delicious, as always!

    Feel better!

    1. Well, that’s interesting. I’m learning so many new things. It was the flu, flu. I just thought the BRAT diet was the safest bet to ease us back into eating regular foods. – Oooh First Pour sounds fun. My daughter and son in law own an Irish pub and they have “tap” events all the time. Being 2000 miles away, alas, I do not get to participate as much as I would like. 🙂 – Also, your mention of Cleveland made me think of the sportscaster Fred McLeod. He was our sports guy forever back in Michigan. So sad to hear he died.:(

  5. it is possible to have the flu shot and still get the flu, because the shot protects you from the strains of flu it was made for, but if a new strain of flu emerges, you can still catch it. Last winter I got our three-strain shot early, because the flu hit our country earlier than usual, then a couple of months later a newer four-strain shot was available. I didn’t bother getting it, just stayed home a lot, away from the coughing, sneezing, madding crowd.
Some of these ads concern me. Why are people already hooked and with children, wanting to chase up someone they glimpse for a couple of seconds.

    Like

    1. You know, I didn’t know the flu shots were specific to strains of the flu. What the heck. Well, obviously I got the shot that didn’t cover the strain I got. Totally sucks. I too attempt to avoid the crowds and I would love to have a hazmat suit to just do my grocery shopping in! So many inconsiderate people hacking and coughing their lungs up all around. I love this time of year but not the “bugs” that come with it.

  6. We do the scarfs on trees thing too, although it’s fairly new out here. The other thing we’ve done for years is a blanket drive, where people send/give blankets or money for blankets to a specific charity which then purchases blankets and hands them out each winter to anyone homeless and sleeping on the streets. Or in their cars.

    Like

    1. I’ll have to check and see if we do blanket drives out here. Also, I’m so glad you mentioned the people sleeping in their cars. They are so overlooked. We had a mom and her two little kids sleeping in her car and she had some kind of a heater rigged up that set the car on fire. She and her 5 yr. old got out safely. The baby in the car seat did not. It’s so sad.

  7. From what I hear, Craigslist dates are generally less successful than spur of the moment wedding in Vegas.

And TLW, swears by the BRAT diet at least when the kids were little. Things change when we age right?

    1. It’s hard enough meeting people in person face to face let alone finding someone online… Not on your life. – Some things change but the spirit remains the same. 🙂
