SATUR-YAY! – The Saturday 9

It’s a cool Saturday thing hosted by Sam over at Saturday 9 and I get to play along!

“Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we’ve committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do “random questions,” so-to-speak.”

Saturday 9: Wagon Wheel (2013)

Unfamiliar with this week’s tune? Hear it here.

1) This week, Darius Rucker sings about hitching a ride to reach his lady love.
*****Have you ever thumbed a ride?
No. I grew up in the “Oakland County Child Killer” days. For anyone who lived in the area, we still carry that nightmare with us.

2) Along the way, he loses his money in a poker game. Successful poker players are good at bluffing or misleading others about their cards.
*****Are you good at bluffing, whether at cards or in life?

3) Darius began his career as the lead singer of 90s soft-rock band Hootie and the Blowfish. Today he’s a country singer.
Let’s say you’re stuck in traffic and only one radio station comes in clearly.
*****Would you prefer it play soft rock or country?

4) Darius Rucker will be on tour throughout 2023, playing dates all over the country and making a couple stops in Cancun.
*****Have you ever visited Mexico? If so, where did you go?
No, but I can speak a little Spanish.

5) Darius has lent his talents to fundraising for The First Tee, a non-profit that teaches children “life lessons, self-confidence, and resilience through golf.”
*****Did you participate in organized sports as a youngster? If yes, what did you play?
Well, I don’t often share because my sporty phase was so short,
see what I did there?

But yeah, you could say I did some organized sports.

6) A big sports fan, he has six TVs in his home so he can watch several games at once. His largest set is 70″.
*****When it comes to TV screens, do you believe bigger is better? Or are you just as comfortable watching from your laptop or phone?

7) In 2013, when “Wagon Wheel” was popular, fans were flocking to the movie theater to see Catching Fire, the second in the Hunger Games series.
*****Are you a Hunger Games fan?
I’ve never seen them.

8) Also in 2013, the word “selfie” was added to the Oxford Dictionary.
*****Do you take a lot of selfies?
Yeah. No.

9) Random question:
*****If we paid you $5,000, would you get Saturday 9 tattooed on your right forearm?
I’m gonna’ go with a NO on that.
I’m still working up the courage to get a family tattoo but it’s not the pain that scares me…

  1. At one of the schools I work at, one of the books they teach the 7th graders is The Hunger Games. Actually, the list of required reading for 7th graders is quite good.

You found some great memes to answer the questions.

    1. Really? I think we had to read The Outsiders and maybe Catcher In The Rye. I am probably totally wrong but I remember those books and Of Mice And Men when we got in h.s.
Thank you, on the memes. I prefer to use them. I like the visuals. 🙂

      1. They still read The Outsiders. And Of Mice and Men. Catcher in the Rye I’ve seen occasionally. Things don’t change that much over the years.

  2. Lol, GREAT answers! Here are mine:
    1. Hell No
    2. Yes, I usually win at games involving bluff.
    3. With those choices, I’d turn the radio OFF
    4. No, I don’t like diarrhea
    5. No, I was a spelling bee champ if that tells you anything
    6. The bigger the better
    7. I read all the books!
    8. No, my vanity prevents me, unlike everyone else!
    9. Not even for a million dollars.

    1. Hahahahahahahahaha!!!! “No, I don’t like diarrhea.” Omg… I’m dying. – You being the spelling bee champ tells me that you knew how to spell diarrhea right off the top of your head and I had to look at your comment to know how it’s spelled! Hahahahahaha! – You wouldn’t get that tat for a million? I might… I don’t know. Now it’s all about the family tats so I may cave for my kids. People always assume I have tattoos (plural) and I say, “Yep, years ago I got a little kittie on my tittie but now it’s a fucking giraffe!

  3. Fun game, good answers.

Have i ever thumbed a ride? No, too scared.

Am i good at bluffing? Nope, and i’m not good at losing money, either, so i don’t gamble.

Only one radio station? Either country or soft rock would be okay.

Have i ever visited Mexico? When i was 11, we went across the country with another family and were in Mexico, just across the border, for a day. I don’t remember the name of the town.

Sports? You don’t want to see me trying sports, it wasn’t pretty then and i’m sure it would put me in the hospital now.

TV? We don’t have one, decided to save money and just gave it up.

Hunger Games? Have not seen the movies, although i’m familiar with the plot lines as my children were fans of the books and movies.

Do i take selfies? No, it’s bad enough when i see myself in a mirror.

A tattoo? Nope, i don’t want to see what it will look like when that skin wrinkles and i don’t want to have to explain it to my grandchildren if i ever have any.

    1. Those are great answers! I think your selfie answer is not true. ❤ – Your tattoo response, right?? What will it look like?? I've thought of that too. And now they have this memorial thing where you can keep your loved one's tattoo in a frame. Yep. They cut it off of them. Uuuuuugggghhh! Not in a million years! Just makes me want to vomit. I'm good with family photos.
