When I wasn’t melting into pools of human flesh this past weekend, “Puzzle Girl” and I set about to hit up a few yard/garage/estate sales.
Okay, first of all, people, when you post your entire life story on Craigslist and then proceed to throw grandma and grandpa under the bus by saying you’re “regretfully” having an estate sale to pay off all of grandma and grandpa’s debt that they left behind – I’m certain because they were bailing your lame asses out of jail – OR, you advertise the biggest yard sale of the weekend, not to be missed, one of a kind items, something for everyone.
Have the fucking sale!
After driving all over hell and back, “Puzzle Girl” and I arrived at no less than 4 posted sale sites and not a one of ’em going on!
Second, if you’re having a garage sale. Have the sale IN your garage.
If you’re having a yard sale. Spread that shit all over from property line to property line.
And if you’re having an estate sale? Here’s a tip.
Three saucers and two chipped cups that belonged to grandma and grandpa sitting on a cardboard box on your front porch for 25 cents a piece or a dollar takes all sign, does NOT count as an estate sale!
Needless-to-say after traveling from one end of the city to the other and beyond, the few sales that we did make it to had nothing of interest to us. So for all of our driving, all of our climbing in and out of a hot vehicle, walking up and down streets and sidewalks and traipsing through backyards and melting every step of the way.
We ended our sale day empty handed.
All was not lost however because the day actually started out quite fantastic. A designated “Girly Day.” “Puzzle Girl” and I finally got to the try the authentic French Pastry shop we’d discovered a couple of weeks back and wow. Talk about amazing.
Authentic, homemade eclairs = Delicious!
“Puzzled Girl” opted for the strawberry topped one which is pistachio with strawberry filling – real strawberries – topped with fresh organic strawberries and pistachios. I went with the chocolate covered traditional eclair.
You can’t get these in the grocery store or donut shop folks. Seriously, not even close.
“Girl Next Door” was coming over for brunch which quickly turned into a French-themed brunch.
We had to pick up these lovely croissants.
So light and airy and buttery and HUGE! They went fantastically well with the homemade crepes that “Puzzle Girl” made us.
FYI – I declared this day my “free” day on my otherwise liquid diet. After the French pastry shop and brunch, “Girl Next Door” had to go back to work so “Puzzle Girl” and I headed out to a couple of shops we hadn’t been to. We both picked up some fun jewelry.
I went with “whore hoops” and a really cool key ring.Side note: The earrings are not seatbelt friendly.
We combed the thrift store for some frames for “Puzzle Girl’s” vision, which turned out to be this.
She says it’s not done yet but she’s done a great job so far and I think it looks super cute!
Then, of course, the fabric sales and swaps.
This is day 3 for me. Days 1 and 2 are either already in totes or in the washing machine/dryer.
I got behind on my crochet/fleece doggie blanket so I’ve been pulling double time on it. I have it scheduled to be complete on the 7th. That would be tomorrow.. Yeah.. I might be bumping that out a couple of days. We’ll see.Â
It’s hotter than two squirrels fucking in a wool sock here but next weekend we’ll drop back into the 70’s so I’m okay with it for the moment. A/C is a wonderful thing. I don’t mind the heat. I sit out in it long enough to soak up some vitamins and deepen my tan but I do like coming into the nice, crisp air.
What’s happening in your corners of the world? Did you hit any sales this weekend? Discover any new places??? You know I’m a nosey bitch and I gotta’ know, so spill!
In the meantime, stay cool, stay dry, warm, whatever you need to do, do that. Be that!
So glad your day ended productively – those eclair’s mmmmm. I love a rummage in a charity shop (think they’re what you call thrift shops? Basically second hand clothes donated by the public sold cheap). You get such interesting stuff – this weekend I got 3 dresses, a pair of shoes and 2 tops all for under £20. Bargain!

Thank you Nicky. And what a deal! I was never a thrift store shopper but when my daughter was in college she turned me on to the them. Her and her gfriends would find the cutest stuff there and I was sold! And you’re right, there is some really interesting stuff in them. I always wish I was one of those ‘Antiques Roadshow” people so I could spot the buried treasure. 🙂

Sounds like you are having a great time even if the yard sales didn’t pan out. I really hate the heat and humidity though. I hide inside all summer unless we get a dry/clear day.

I really am Joanne. And thankfully we don’t have that humidity. That is killer. I remember living in Michigan being surrounded by all those Great Lakes – the I adore – and feeling like you have to cut a hole in the atmosphere to breathe!

Our town has a town wide yard sale day. Every street has several sales going on. At the end of the day the streets are lined with stuff that would not sell. Scavengers have field day.

Omgosh. I would totally be in my element Joe. The only thing that would make it better would be to stroll it with one of the “Antiques Roadshow” guys. 😀

Okay, I didn’t know those were called whore hoops. I know what red fuck me pumps are, but these hoops are a new one on me. I’ll add that to my list of shit to say.
Have a fabulous day. ☺

Hahahahah. I had both CP! Hahahaha. I love big earrings and long dangly ones that make noise when you walk. I like to walk thru town in my long dresses and jingly jewelry. Hahaha. I do! My dad was not a fan of my big earrings. He’d always ask me if I was going fishing. “I see you’ve got the lures on your ears.” – (Rolls eyes) – Just fun. 🙂

I haven’t been to a yard (rummage, garage, estate) sale in literally years. I never found any bargains. I did buy books, but now my books come from the thrift store for a quarter each …
We had a quiet weekend at home and it was loverly in the cool of the A/C.
That fabric with the rockets looks faintly familiar to me. I see everyone’s stash and wish I could sew again. Fond memories of my floor to ceiling sewing closet stash that somebody went home very happy to have! 🙂

Well, you’re not missing much on the yard sales S.J. And that rocket fabric is very retro, that’s why it caught my eye too. I’m almost certain I saw it in the form of pajamas on my brothers a million years ago.. And I’m so jealous of your floor to ceiling stash. I wish I had gone home with it! I know I will miss sewing when I am no longer able to do it. 😦

‘It’s hotter than two squirrels fucking in a wool sock,’ should be emblazoned on T-shirts everywhere, or alternately, officially used in weather reports.

That phrase is lovingly brought to you and the rest of the world by my friend Tina. The first time I heard her say it, I’ve said it ever since. And I agree. I think weathermen/women everywhere should use that officially when it’s sweat your tits/balls off hot!

Hahaha! I would pay millions (if I had it) to hear you reporting the weather. 🙂

And then we’d have to scrap up some cash to pay for atty. fees after all of the lawsuits claiming mental abuse.. Hahahah.

Ah, why you gotta rain on my parade? It would still be worth it though. 😀

I would have been more than a bit irritated to find sales I specifically drove to to be non-existent. Of course, having a friend there would have helped ease the frustration. And Eclaires. That pastry shop definitely would have helped. 🙂
I haven’t been to a garage sale in a decade at least. The last time I went, I scored a giant stack of like-new board games for next to nothing. We still have and play some of them.

Omgosh.. It was more than irritating Christine BUT we were not going to let their ridiculousness get in the way of our “Girly Day.” We had a fantastic day. And I almost bought a stack of board games the other day, HUGE stack. Game nights – board games – are making a huge comeback, which is funny because I never knew they went away. We all love our board games. 🙂

Puzzle Girl’s wall is awesome and the french brunch sounded yummy. So it seems not all was lost last weekend. Keep smiling.

Thank you. I’ll be sure and pass your kind words onto her. She’s pretty awesome herself! 😀 – I’m still catching up on your page as we speak, er, write! No, and nothing is ever truly lost unless you just give up looking, right? 🙂 – Now, back to your page. 😀
